In the beginning Starting to take form Starting to add copper The outer ring has symbols that represent Faith, Love and strength. The int rings represent the open circle of life, the begin and the questionable end. Fond in then teaching of Zen. I added four rings, that represent symbolic Hopi native american maze to enlightenment,. Once your spirit finds new ways to the center of the maze, to be given gifts, ...

Lets just say it has been awhile. The last time  I turned anything, was a demonstration at our Desert  Woodturng Roundup in February. Well just completed it turning today.  Bermese Rosewood ring box 7.75 tall x 2.625 & weights is 1.2 bls. Starting the finishing. The finish is hand rubbed on for natural low sheen. This keepsake Box has a perfectly snug fit.

Wow I can not express the excitement I am enjoying in the creation of this piece. The final is a donated scrap of ivory, hooray. I have never turned ivory before. Truly something special. This vessel, is a song ebony and ivory. With bloodwood ( may represent blood once spilled). Ivory is for purity and a change of sadness. Ebony, once known in ancient Egypt as farrows gold. For me I find that I like the depth of this gaboon ebony, black is also known to  absorb the negativity of evils.         I like the thought of it.                                         This is story about the spirit of joy, housing the special meanings, you wish to keep near. The making of a Silk oak open hollow vessel. This piece started at about a good 9" log. I turned past the sap wood and the check/chacks    The process of hollowing. The tricky part here, is that this vessel is so small and about 11" deep, to the base. At this point I started to add colors, of dye. The trick here is to sand as much of the dye off as your patience will allow, you can always add more, as I do all the time, until I have something I like.
